I wonder if it would have been half as hated if they named it something else. When you call something Godzilla, or st the very least put a zilla i n its name, you have expectations.

William Castle always managed to leave the audience with something memorable.

The effect was rear projection. The colour part was filmed in the front & the Black & White was a video clip projected in the background. It's a good effect that's been used in multiple movies.

I remember seeing this movie! At a drive-in! In my PJs! Most I cannot remember, too much time and recreational chemicals, but I do remember the cage bars falling on the professor and then the dinosaur jumping on it! Now get off my lawn, I have a cloud to yell at!

The role that Lois Chiles plays as the driver was originally cast with Barbara Eden (I Dream Of Jeanne) her mother passed away right before filming began, and she had to drop out, leaving Chiles only days to prepare for filming. Also, the girl in "The Raft" with the long hair is Paige Hannah, the younger sister of Daryl Hannah (Splash).

The people in the theaters probably lost their minds at that scene. I don't care how it was achieved, it looks damn creepy. Love that movie!

For those who haven’t I definitely recommend How did this not get made’s episodes on Godzilla providing the film we would’ve gotten originally. And the big reason they got rid of Godzilla’s camouflage was to save money and get the CG work done. In fact the CG wasn’t complete until the night before it was released in theaters with the animators whorling 12 hours shifts 7 days a week.

It was pretty good. Just saw it recently. 90s nostalgia for sure.
